The Fall of the House of Usher

posted from POEtry

Today in class, we read the Fall of the House of Usher. I believe that the short story talks about how isolationism
leads to becoming an outcast and that being a part of society leads to being normal. In the short story,
the house represents wealth, due to its size and decorations, but also represents insanity because it
drives Lord Usher insane by separating him from society.

  1. it had a lot of gloom and was kind of gothic. It was hard to understand, also. I thought it was really descriptive, and used a lot of alliteration

  3. While I agree isolationism is addressed in the story, I think the major idea it is trying to portray is much deeper than that.
